"So am I," John answers with a very small smile before he ducks to kiss Karen again, properly this time. There are no guarantees with the life he has, they both know it, and while there are times John wishes he could give Karen a safer, more normal life, he thinks she might not be here with him at all if that was the type of man he was.

They came together for a reason. He doesn't take that for granted.

"She reminded me how lucky I am to be married to you," he adds once they part, the smile growing in tiny increments. "Just in case I had forgotten."
