Although his vision is blurred and the back of his head aches, John sees Karen standing over him, offering her his hand after having thrown a man clear across the store and she looks like a superhero. When he was a kid, long before his father had died, John had read plenty of comic books and when he turns to look up at Karen now, it's the same picture he's seen countless times before. It's been a long time since he's read comics, but that image remains, powerful and so like Karen in this moment.
He's known he's in love with her for a very long time, but it surges up in him now, shockingly strong.
Taking her hand, he climbs to his feet, his head spinning from the blow. The would be robbers all look shocked and one of them takes a few steps away from them both.
"What the hell, man?" one of them asks, glancing back at his friend, the one Karen has thrown. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
