The men turn as John stumbles into the mouth of the alley with Dutch, but they turn away again when John hits the wall and then pulls Dutch toward him. When he speaks, his words are slurred, affecting the behaviour of a man appropriately drunk for the end of a really good date. This is nothing worth paying attention to as far as the men are concerned.

They're working at a door. Given everything they'd been talking about earlier, it's possible they're breaking in somewhere to steal something, but John suspects it's something a touch more sinister than that. There had been talk about drugs, about a woman, maybe someone held against her will. He doesn't care why, but he just needs to see them get through that door.

"Once the door's open, we follow," he says, leaning close to Dutch. "In the restaurant they kept mentioning a woman."
