"You, yes," John decides in a split second. It's not about protecting Dutch, it's about how they'll look to any potential women being kept inside. If these men are trying to start a prostitution ring like he thinks they might be, the women are likely frightened and probably feel like they can't trust anyone. If a man of his size comes in first holding a weapon, they're not likely to think of him as someone on their side.

But if he comes in beside Dutch and if Dutch is the one with the weapon, they'll respond much more favourably.

"I'll go in first," he says, moving them in the direction of the door. They're being ignored now and the door is closing. "But I need you right beside me. If there are women in there, they need to see you before me."
