"Yeah," he says, then leans down to kiss Karen before he does anything else. The apartment doesn't have to mean anything to him for this to still be significant. Important. Taking this step is important without his previous residence having been a real home. John knows what he's been missing for a good part of his life. He doesn't need that to know what he's going to is so much better than what he's had.

This is a new chance. Carter had made that perfectly clear to him in the moments before his arrival. He knows it had been a hallucination, that he hadn't really seen her, but he'll still take the lesson she wanted to teach him.

When they part, he smiles fondly at Karen and then nods toward the elevator. "Let's go home."
