"I hadn't expected that to be the case," John answers mildly. Getting married might have once been a reason to settle down, as it were, and it might be considered the same still for some, but he doubts very much Peggy was ever a woman to settle down and stop doing what she wants to. Marriage won't change that. Daniel isn't marrying her because he expects her to just drop everything and become a housewife.
