This, he thinks, has to be a decent bachelorette party.

Maybe not for the average bride, maybe other people out there want strippers and sashes that read BRIDE-TO-BE and phallic decorations, but Peggy had made it very clear to John that she wanted none of that.

So he'd rented out a bar. An entire bar. The guest list isn't particularly extensive, they don't need the entire bar, but he'd seen no reason not to do it anyway. It means they have the entire place to themselves, they can control the music, and the bartender has only them to serve. And John has paid a flat fee for the bartender and the serving staff, plus given them a significant tip, so they're attending the party perfectly.

The bar is nice, with comfortable chairs and several pool tables, as well as a well stocked jukebox that he thinks has just about anything someone might think to play. Maybe not Dutch, she probably knows songs none of them have ever heard before, but there's probably plenty on the jukebox she'll still enjoy.

There are appetizers, lots of them, covering just about any option a person could want. The same goes for alcohol.

All in all, for someone not all that inclined toward attending parties, he thinks he's done a fairly good job capturing something Peggy will enjoy. And that's the point of tonight, giving her a party to celebrate her future and everything that's to come with people she enjoys spending time with.

Peggy laughs at the very image of Thor in a wedding gown, eyeing his biceps and the rest of his body to judge how effective a bride he truly would have made. Perhaps someone would have been fooled, but she'd like to think that it wouldn't have been her.

"And how did this giant propose to you? Was he blind? Or simply enraptured by your strength?" she suggests.

The creepy old man might have stolen his hair (and done a rough job of it, as evidenced by the unevenness of the cut he hasn't bothered to fix) but his beard is at least still intact. As it had been then. Which Thor does not so much mention as rub a hand over his beard to indicate that it is was there, along with his biceps and the breadth of his shoulders. A great difference from the voluptuous beauty of Freyja of the Vanir.

"It is a thrilling story, actually," he tells her, entirely in his element at the prospect of telling it to a new audience. After all, the bride is meant to be entertained at such events, isn't she? "He had stolen my hammer in the night and had sworn to return it only if we would give him Freyja's hand in marriage. Which, of course, we would not do- she told us if we were so determined to marry someone off to a giant, one of us might as well do it."

"I wore a heavy veil and my brother went in disguise as my handmaiden."

Peggy laughs at the thought of a veil heavy enough to disguise such a handsome and striking face, not to mention that someone would have fallen in love so quickly with a woman and be willing to marry without the veil. "I feel as if this speaks strongly to your charm," Peggy informs him.

"After all, it's quite impressive getting a man to fall in love. Lust, I can do," she says, off-hand, because it just takes the right dress. "But a wedding? Bravo, Thor."

However many hundreds of years ago it was, Thor can still remember that evening. The questions of why his eyes were so furious and dark (because the bride had been too anxious to sleep, said Loki). Why the bride ate so much as the wedding feast (she'd been fasting in her nervousness, said Loki). Why-

He smiles broadly at her, then puts a hand on his chest and feigns a humble expression. "I have heard I am quite lovable," he says, then immediately falls into a laugh because what a ridiculous thing to say. True but ridiculous.

"And you," he begins, because he is curious enough to ask and it seems to be the topic due to the circumstances. "You were a SHIELD agent? Him as well?"

Peggy opens her mouth and then closes it, trying to decide how modest one should be in these circumstances. "I suppose, in a way, yes." She gives Thor a rather pleased smile, knowing that she's about to boast. "I founded it. It was the SSR when we both worked there, and the founding it in the future, but from what I hear, it was me, Howard, and the Colonel."

"That said, I honestly cannot imagine that I would have done it without Daniel," she says, with the firmness of a woman who's made up her mind. "So obviously he must have been there with us."

Having missed the revelation of SHIELD having been thoroughly riddled by HYDRA, his only form of reference for the agency is Nick Fury and those he had commanded. Spymasters rarely were straightforward creatures and Fury was the very model of it.

But the organization had been a sprawling one, as far as he understood it. A massive enterprise with research and technological arms, as well as those used for information collection and espionage. So Thor is thoroughly impressed by the fact of her and her soon-to-be husband having been two of its founders.

"Impressive," and as there is something in her that reminds him of the Valkyrie he'd just met, he assures her "Not that you need my approval, obviously. But very impressive all the same."

"I'm not sure how impressive I am when I don't remember any of it," Peggy admits, not sure that she's ready to swoop in and claim the credit for something that she doesn't actually recall doing, but at the same time, she's not in a rush to deny it. After all, it is rather nice to be lauded for once instead of shot down and ignored.

"Where you're from, you know of it? How?" she asks, wondering how they might have come into contact and how they might have interacted before all of this.
